FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sierra Pacific Industries Selects General Kinematics for Wood Chip Conveying System
May 1, 2025: Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) has selected General Kinematics (GK), an Illinois-based vibratory equipment manufacturer and system integrator, to design and build 66 varying lengths of SYNCRO-COIL® Conveyors that will be installed at SPI’s new sawmills being built in Eugene, Ore. When completely installed, the total length of the conveyers will be impressive – measuring just under one mile (one and a half kilometers).
SPI is building a new cutting mill and state-of-the-art stud mill to replace their existing sawmilling operations in Eugene. The company is one of the largest U.S. lumber manufacturers, operating 18 sawmills on the West Coast. They are also the largest private U.S. timberland owner, along with producing millwork, wood fiber products, windows and renewable energy. SPI emphasizes sustainable forestry, advanced mill technology, and community support through the Sierra Pacific Foundation.
The project features one of the longest continuous conveyor systems, spanning 150 feet (52 meters), that General Kinematics has built in recent years. Project manager for the system, Wes Eeg commented, “The GK brand prides itself on engineering excellence when it comes to providing customers with highly durable equipment. We have made a name for ourselves in our ability to achieve these impressive feats of engineering.”
With the first shipments of SYNCRO-COIL® Conveyors already sent to the Eugene site in August 2024, these units are designed to convey multiple types of wood scrap at rates ranging from 12 to 48 tons per hour. The “cushioned drive” design allows repeated starts and stops of the unit under a full product load and accommodates surge loading, or other system upset conditions, without overstressing the various drive components.
With nearly 70 years in the wood processing industry, technically advanced vibrating conveyors have been a tradition at General Kinematics. Not only for materials that need to be moved, but many processes along the way, including separating, classification, distribution, sorting, metals removal and more.
General Kinematics vibratory conveyors are designed to handle the unique challenges of the wood processing industry, offering unmatched reliability, reduced maintenance, and superior material handling efficiency. For more information, contact GK’s sales team at info@generalkinematics.com.
