Scrap Metal Polishing Drum

Rotary Scrap Metal Polishing Drum
With GK’s Scrap Metal Polishing Drum, you’ll maximize your commodity returns and achieve higher melt yields with cleaner metal. The Scrap Metal Polishing Drum is a heavy-duty metal polishing solution designed by General Kinematics scrap metal recycling experts to maximize the cleanliness and yield of recycled metals. These rotary drums use the tumbling action to create metal-on-metal and metal-to-liner contact combined with negative airflow to clean, remove oxidation, and contaminants from nonferrous metals, resulting in a cleaner product for either next step processing or end market.
How the Rotary Scrap Metal Polisher Works
A Vibratory Feeder system meters materials into the Rotary Scrap Metal Polishing Drum. A negative air flow system between the Vibratory Feeder and Rotary Drum removes initial dust and debris from the metal before it even enters the body of the Drum. The Drum is segmented into several zones, each performing a different function to maximize metal cleanliness: ‘paddles’ right after the feed to aid in segregation and tumbling. The metals then go through a polishing zone for a set length of time. At the discharge end of the drum, there is a screening section for fines removal with a second negative airflow for final dust removal and cleaning. Fines drop into a collection point or conveyor below.
Features/Benefits

- Polished metals sort more effectively in downstream processes (ie, X-ray or LIBS)
- Removes dust, surface contaminants, and oxidation
- Polished metals result in higher melt yields
- Metered batch feeding system ensures the metal is cleaned properly
- Negative air flow at the feed end and screen section removes excess dust and debris
- Screening section removes fines
