Reduce, Recycle & Reuse … at 30% the Original Cost

recycling symbolIt’s estimated that the average person accounts for 4.5 pounds of waste per day – or 1.5 tons every year. And while about 75 percent of all solid waste is able to be recycled, it’s estimated that only about 30 percent of it actually is.

Why? The reasons vary. Some think it isn’t worth the time or effort. Others think there are enough people doing it already so they won’t make a difference. And some businesses and corporations simply don’t want to invest in the commercial recycling solutions necessary to carry out the deed.

But what those that the latter situation applies to don’t realize is that much of this initial investment in the necessary commercial recycling solutions can also be reduced, reused and recycled. In fact, such equipment from General Kinematics can be re-purposed at 30 percent of the original cost of equipment – so you can make a difference and not have to worry about breaking the bank either. And here’s just a few reasons why you should be doing your part in recycling:

  • Construction, demolition and home remodeling projects account for up to 30 percent of the annual national waste. And many of these materials that are disposed of can be easily recycled if they’re sorted and allocated appropriately. For instance, cement can be grained down to be used as aggregate in new pavement, drywall can be used to make new drywall sheets and metals and plastics can also be recycled to make new materials.
  • It’s estimated that less than one percent of all plastic products are recycled in the U.S. This is alarming, being that plastic is easily recyclable and can be re-purposed to make new plastic parts, which saves money and energy compared to producing virgin plastic products.
  • Availability: More and more communities are introducing and improving their recycling offerings to residents and business owners, which thereby makes it easier and more convenient to recycle. All it takes is a little bit of effort to make a big difference in the community.
  • Good publicity: If you’re a business owner with a viable recycling plan, you can promote this aspect of your company. It makes for good publicity, which can help place your business in a positive light and grow it accordingly.

  1. I appreciated it when you shared that it is great to promote recycling for your business as it helps to place your company in a positive light and grow it accordingly. Besides, you are able to reduce the need to extract materials from the sources. I would like to think if a company needs to recycle its old computers, it should consider looking for a reliable place to resell them.
